A New Healthy Lifestyle

Well this post is hard to write. It is hard not only because it is a vulnerable post but because there is always the constant fear that floats around my brain thinking about the judgement that may come from other people. But here we go.

6 months before my 30th birthday (this time last year in fact) I made a promise to myself that I was going to be in the best shape of my life by the time that I turned 30. I looked to fitness magazines, dancers, weight lifters, and really just people who were all around “in-shape” and thought to myself, I am going to be like them. Guess what? It didn’t happen. Not a big surprise there.

When I turned 30, I was pretty disappointed because I was convinced 6 months prior that I was going to be a different person when the day came. Did I do anything to get in shape? No. Did I change my eating habits? No.

You are probably sitting there thinking, “Well Sarah, duh. No wonder nothing changed. YOU DIDN’T DO ANYTHING TO MAKE ANY BIT OF DIFFERENCE!” Sitting here now, thinking about it, y’all are totally right, however at the time, I was completely befuddled. Like somehow wishing that I would look different was going to change things. Like magic!

Fast forward 6 months. I am now 30 and ½ years old. I have been working out for nearly 4.5 months from home for at least 30 minutes, changed not only the way I eat, but my relationship with food also and have never felt better!

I have always wanted progress to be immediate, however over the last few months I have realized it takes time. The photos below are proof. Now they may not seem like much change to you, but to me, they are pushing me to continue.

Here are the stats:

  • 12 weeks of 30 minute at home workouts⠀

  • 8 weeks(ish) of a clean eating meal plan⠀

  • 100% heart and showing up every day!⠀

  • 4lbs lost, 3.5 inches lost and a whole lot of muscle gained!! ⠀

There were days I skipped. I still ate ice cream and pizza but I worked on incorporating lots of veggies into my diet.

So what did I learn? 12 weeks can change your life. It changed mine! It won’t always be easy, but it will be worth it. It isn't just about losing weight, but it is about being the healthiest version of yourself for your family!

So why do I say all of this?

Well, Blue Oak Farm started as a product shop for organic and handmade bath and body products and it still very much is focused on that; however, Blue Oak Farm is so much more! It is where I live, it is my way of life – simple, healthy country living.

So without further ado - We are expanding into a healthy lifestyle blog and business!

This is something that has been on my mind for a while now and though I haven't exactly figured how how it is going to look, I am jumping in and getting started.

My goal is each week to let you into a little more about who I am and why I have chosen to live the life that I have. I will post healthy recipes when they are blog worthy, workouts when appropriate, ways to simplify your life and home, but most importantly, ways that I am growing mentally in this process.

Working out, fitness and healthy living is all well and good, but what we (myself included) tend to forget is that if we don’t change our thoughts and our mindset, all our effort is temporary.
