What's in a name?
Our home sits on, just shy of, 3.5 acres and is spotted with blue oak trees. 65 if we are getting technical. And what makes blue oaks so special you might ask? Well, blue oaks are found only in California and can be found in only two places: Coastal Ranges and the foothills of the Sierra Nevada Mountains.
I am a firm believer that a home needs a name. We had been in our nameless home for about a year and then with a little help from my mother-in-law, our oasis named itself.
What do we do?
It all started with a dream, a kitchen and some baking soda. Ok that sounds a bit odd, but hey it is the truth and sometimes the truth gets a little weird!
Blue Oak Farm does a little bit of everything.
First, it provides shelter for our family; a place of reset and relaxation. It is the home to a horse named Ellie and is visited by multiple herds of deer each night. We have fruit trees that sometimes bear fruit and weeds...so many weeds. We have a vegetable garden that provides sustenance and hopefully soon we will welcome so goats into our little family.
Second, Blue Oak Farm has a product shop! Off and on for the last 5 years or so I have been making all natural aromatherapy products for friends and family. I had been toying with the idea of launching a business and a product shop during this time but never put myself into it 100%. Then 2018 came and I decided that if I wasn't going to do it now I was never going to. We opened officially on February 1, 2018. I am nervous, unsure, wavering...but most of all excited. The shop is by no means a full time job. It is just way for me to make a little extra money to help my family while doing something that I love to do already. We are starting with aromatherapy products and may move into other handmade items.
Let's just see where the wind blows. Shall we?
